George Orwell Achievement.

George Orwell decided to become a writer. He worked as a teacher in a small private school. In 1934 Orwell got a part-time job in a second-hand bookshop. 


His father was a colonial civil servant and the family were middle class but not particularly well off. However, when Orwell was only a year old his mother moved back to England while his father stayed in India until 1912.

1911    Start School 
1917    Won a scholarship
1921    Joined the British police
1928    Journeyed to Paris
1932 -  Teaching in Public School
1933    Published Down and Out in Paris and London
1934    Part time job in a second-hand bookshop
1935    Another novel published "A Clergyman's Daughter"

1936   Keep the Aspidistra Flying. Also married Eileen
1936   He was commissioned to write a book about poverty in northern England.
1937   The Road to Wigan Pier was published
1938   Wrote A Homage to Catalonia
1939   Another novel, Coming Up For Air
1941-  Worked for the BBC
1943

1943   Became literary editor

1945  Great satire Animal Farm

1949  Masterpiece

1949  Remarried his second wife Sonia.

1950  Died on 21 January He was only 46.
